Ainhoa is a traditional Basque village nestling in a huge and outstanding leafy setting. Numerous bastides (country houses), which were very fashionable when they were built in the 13th century, were built side-by-side in the town centre The purpose of these impressive houses was to provide a roof for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Today, they comprise a major part of the town's heritage. Just alongside the town hall, discover the Maison du Patrimoine d'Ainhoa (heritage centre) which will reveal some of the town's secrets.
